What Is A Bourbon Bottle Share?

A bourbon bottle share, also known as a whiskey bottle share, is a social gathering or event where whiskey enthusiasts come together to share and sample different bottles of bourbon or other types of whiskey. It is a way for individuals to try a wide variety of spirits without having to purchase full bottles themselves.

During a bourbon bottle share, participants each bring a bottle of bourbon to contribute to the event. The bottles can range from rare and expensive releases to more readily available options. The goal is to create a diverse selection of whiskeys for everyone to enjoy.

At the event, participants usually take turns pouring small samples of their chosen whiskey for others to taste. It’s common for attendees to discuss and appreciate the unique characteristics of each whiskey, sharing their knowledge and experiences with the group. This allows individuals to explore a range of flavors, aromas, and brands that they may not have encountered otherwise.

Bourbon bottle shares often foster a sense of community among whiskey enthusiasts, as they provide an opportunity for like-minded people to connect, learn from one another, and expand their whiskey knowledge. It’s important to note that bottle shares are typically organized among friends or within specific whiskey clubs or communities.

What Bourbon Should I Take To A Bottle Share?

When selecting a bourbon to take to a bottle share, there are a few factors to consider. Here are some suggestions to help you make a choice:

  1. Variety: Aim for a bourbon that offers a distinct flavor profile or unique characteristics. This can contribute to the diversity of the tasting experience. Consider selecting a bottle from a different distillery, a limited edition release, or one with an interesting mash bill.
  2. Rarity or Limited Editions: If you have access to a rare or limited edition bourbon, it can be a great choice for a bottle share. These bottles often generate excitement and intrigue among fellow enthusiasts.
  3. Balance: Look for a bourbon that strikes a good balance between flavors. It should have complexity and depth without overwhelming or overpowering the palate. This can help ensure that it will be enjoyed by a range of participants with varying preferences.
  4. Personal Favorites: Sharing a bourbon that you personally enjoy and can speak to can be a great way to introduce others to your taste preferences. It can also spark conversations and discussions about the whiskey.
  5. Local or Unique Offerings: If you have access to bourbons from smaller, local distilleries or those that are not widely distributed, they can be an excellent choice. These bottles often provide an opportunity to showcase regional flavors and support lesser-known producers.

Remember, the goal of a bottle share is to provide a diverse selection for everyone to enjoy.

Are There Rules For A Bourbon Bottle Share?

While there are no strict rules that apply universally to all bourbon bottle shares, there are some general guidelines and considerations that can help ensure a pleasant and enjoyable experience for all participants. Here are a few common practices:

  1. Bring a bottle to share: The primary expectation is that each participant brings a bottle of bourbon to contribute to the event. The bottle should be unopened or, if opened, with a sufficient quantity remaining to serve multiple small pours.
  2. Sharing and sampling: Participants take turns pouring small samples for others to taste. It’s customary to pour just enough for a taste rather than full servings to allow everyone to try a variety of bourbons.
  3. Respectful consumption: Bourbon bottle shares are not intended as opportunities for excessive drinking. The focus is on tasting and appreciating the flavors and nuances of different bourbons. Enjoy the experience responsibly, savoring the whiskey in moderation.
  4. Open-mindedness and respect: Approach the bottle share with an open mind and respect for other participants’ choices and preferences. Engage in friendly discussions, share knowledge, and appreciate the diverse range of bourbons being shared.
  5. Cleanse your palate: Between tastings, it’s helpful to cleanse your palate with water, unsalted crackers, or plain bread. This allows you to fully appreciate the unique qualities of each bourbon without residual flavors from previous samples affecting your perception.
  6. Glassware and water: It’s advisable to bring your own tasting glass to the bottle share. This helps maintain consistency and prevents cross-contamination of flavors. Additionally, having water available for participants to rinse their glasses or cleanse their palates is often appreciated.
  7. Consideration for others: Be mindful of the number of pours you request, allowing everyone to have an opportunity to sample. Be courteous and patient, particularly during busy times when multiple bourbons are being poured.

It’s important to note that these guidelines can vary depending on the specific bottle share event and the preferences of the organizers and participants. It’s always a good idea to inquire about any specific instructions or guidelines when attending a bottle share.

Where Can I Find A Bourbon Bottle Share?

Finding a bourbon bottle share can be done through various avenues. Here are some suggestions on where to look:

  1. Local whiskey clubs or societies: Check if there are any whiskey clubs or societies in your area. These groups often organize bottle shares and tasting events. You can search online for local whiskey enthusiast communities, social media groups, or check with local liquor stores or whiskey bars for information on clubs or events in your area.
  2. Whiskey festivals or events: Whiskey festivals or events often feature bottle shares or tasting sessions as part of their programs. Keep an eye out for whiskey festivals in your region and see if they offer opportunities for bottle sharing. These events are great opportunities to meet fellow whiskey enthusiasts and participate in bottle shares.
  3. Online whiskey communities: Online platforms and forums dedicated to whiskey, such as Reddit’s r/whiskey or whiskey-focused Facebook groups, can be excellent resources for finding information on bottle shares. Engaging with these communities and expressing your interest in attending or organizing a bottle share can help you connect with like-minded individuals.
  4. Personal connections and word of mouth: Networking within the whiskey community or among fellow bourbon enthusiasts can lead to invitations to bottle shares. Attend local tastings, join whiskey-related events, and engage in conversations with other whiskey enthusiasts to build connections and increase your chances of being invited to a bottle share.
  5. Organize your own bottle share: If you can’t find an existing bottle share in your area, consider organizing one yourself. Reach out to friends, colleagues, or acquaintances who share an interest in bourbon and invite them to a tasting event at your home or a suitable venue. This allows you to curate the experience and tailor it to your preferences.

Remember, bottle shares are often organized within specific circles, clubs, or communities, and may not be publicly advertised. Therefore, actively engaging with local whiskey enthusiasts and communities will increase your chances of finding and participating in a bourbon bottle share.

What New Riff Bourbons Can You Buy?

New Riff “Yellow Leaming” Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

  • Bottled in Bond Without Chill Filtration
  • 100 Proof, 50% ABV
  • Aged at least 5 years
  • Mashbill: 65% Heirloom Yellow Leaming Corn, 30% Rye, 5% Malted Barley

Yellow Leaming dates from 1824, when farmer Jacob Leaming began working with Native American corn in Hamilton County, Ohio. By the 1850’s, it had become one of the preeminent corns of the 19th century; it would go on to form the basis for the American agricultural history, and it came from right here in Hamilton County, Greater Cincinnati Ohio. Our Yellow Leaming was entirely sourced for us, and grown by, our wonderful farmer Charles Fogg of Greensburg, Indiana.

New Riff “Blue Clarage” Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

  • Bottled in Bond Without Chill Filtration
  • 100 Proof, 50% ABV
  • Aged at least 5 years
  • Mashbill: 65% Heirloom Blue Clarage Corn, 30% Rye, 5% Malted Barley

Blue Clarage corn was developed in the 1920’s by farmer Edmund Clarridge in Clinton County, Ohio. An authentic blue Ohio corn, it lends a marked difference to the whiskey compared to our usual recipe, replete with fruited, spicy tones.
The Blue Clarage corn, however, took a more circuitous route to our distillery; we were given 150 pounds of the Blue corn as seed stock from farmer Tony West at Appalachian Heirloom Plant Farm. Charles Fogg took this seed stock and grew it into a crop that sustained out singular production of this whiskey for years. Blue corn is often associated with tortilla chips, the Southwest and Mexico, but it comes from our homeland in the Ohio Valley, too.

New Riff Bottle Release FAQ

I can’t log in?
First ensure you have the correct email for your whiskey club account? Often, we have customers using their work or personal email when their club account is through one or the other? You can also try resetting your password? Please note, if this will be your first Whiskey Club purchase, you will need to create an account. NRWC accounts are free, no obligation and can be canceled at any time.

I can’t schedule a pickup date?
Due to the volume of sales our webstore may need a few moments to catch up to book your pickup date. Don’t worry, if you have an order confirmation you are all set and will receive an email or text with a link to schedule within a few hours. You will need an appointment to pick up your bottle.

I was not able to purchase, but saw someone online with more than one bottle.
We’re sorry you missed the bottle. The good news is a limited amount of product will be available at select accounts throughout Kentucky this fall.  Additionally, we do everything in our power to ensure bottle sales are limited to one bottle per purchase. Oftentimes customers will pick up bottles for family and friends and appear to have more than one.

A note on our whiskey club checkout during a release — what can happen when a whiskey sells out.

We have been overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm you, our dear whiskey club, have shown for our limited and rarer products. Thank you for all of your support! This Spring we will be releasing our 9th whiskey via our NRWC platform, and proudly creating another opportunity for all of us (we’re club members too!) to have a fair shot to enjoy these special whiskies.

Each year, we tweak and improve our system, often responding to direct feedback from you! One item we have heard recently is confusion around having an item in your cart that seems to “disappear” before you can complete checkout. When this happens, there are more customers with bottles in their shopping cart than actual inventory. Thus, when the bottle sells out, many of you feel you have lost the bottle. After much conversation and deliberation with our tech partners, we still feel the current system offers the best opportunity for first come first serve sales and means this phenomenon may still continue.

We hope you can understand if this happens that it is simply the outcome of a higher demand than supply. The good news is, with your support and interest our production has increased year over year and we will continue to have more and more products available.

The Fine Print

Club membership does not guarantee availability. Members will be given notice on the published timeline and will be limited per person. You will not be able to check out with more than 2 total bottles in your cart. Duplicate purchases by a single NRWC account will be canceled and refunded. Editions will be first come first serve during online sale, which we anticipate will sell out quickly. Club members, or their designee will have 60 days from time of online sale to pick up their purchase in store, shipping is not allowed. If items are not picked up within 60 days, they will be automatically refunded, and your purchase will be forfeited. All communication regarding NRWC will be conducted via email, it is the responsibility of the member alone to keep their contact information up to date. NRWC members will be able to update their contact information through the website. Must be 21 years of age to purchase.

Want To Grab Some, But Can’t Make It To Kentucky?

Shoot me an email at chris@thebourbonmaster.com and we can make a deal. I might be running down to pick up my bottles and would be happy to grab orders that can’t be grabbed.

Why Are People Obsessed With Buffalo Trace Products?

Have you ever taken a look at a bourbon Facebook group and wondered why everyone in the group is obsessed with Buffalo Trace products?

You are not alone.

There is a cult following for all Buffalo Trace products and it seems to continue to grow. I’m a fan of some Buffalo Trace products, but I’m not obsessed like most people.

So I wanted to take a deeper dive into why Buffalo Trace is a crowd favorite and why most of their products are allocated and hard to find.

What Makes Buffalo Trace Different?

Buffalo Trace is a distillery located in Frankfort, Kentucky that produces a wide variety of bourbon and whiskey products. Despite the fact that Buffalo Trace is not the only distillery producing great whiskey, there is no denying that there is a certain level of obsession with their products. In this blog post, we’ll explore some of the reasons why people are obsessed with Buffalo Trace products.

  1. Quality

One of the primary reasons why people are obsessed with Buffalo Trace products is the quality of the whiskey they produce. Buffalo Trace has won countless awards for their bourbon and whiskey, and many people consider them to be one of the best distilleries in the world. They take great care in the production process, using only the finest ingredients and aging their whiskey to perfection.

  1. Heritage

Buffalo Trace has a long and storied history in the world of bourbon and whiskey. The distillery was originally established in 1787, making it one of the oldest continuously operating distilleries in the United States. Over the years, they have produced some of the most iconic bourbons in the world, including Blanton’s, Eagle Rare, and of course, Buffalo Trace.

  1. Innovation

Despite their long history, Buffalo Trace is not afraid to innovate and try new things. They are constantly experimenting with different barrel types, aging techniques, and mash bills to create new and exciting flavors. This dedication to innovation has led to the creation of some truly unique and delicious products, such as their Experimental Collection and their line of Single Oak Project bourbons.

  1. Availability

Another reason why people are obsessed with Buffalo Trace products is their availability. While some of their more rare and limited edition products can be hard to come by, many of their products are widely available and reasonably priced. This accessibility has allowed more people to try and fall in love with Buffalo Trace products.

Where Can I Find Buffalo Trace Products?

Buffalo Trace products can be found in various locations, both online and offline. Here are some common places where you can find Buffalo Trace products:

  1. Liquor Stores: Visit well-stocked liquor stores or specialty shops that carry a wide selection of spirits. Buffalo Trace products, including their flagship bourbon, are often available in these establishments. Some stores may even have dedicated sections or displays for Buffalo Trace products due to their popularity.
  2. Online Retailers: Numerous online retailers specialize in selling spirits, and they often have a wide range of Buffalo Trace products available. Websites like Drizly, ReserveBar, and Master of Malt are popular options for purchasing Buffalo Trace bourbon and other expressions. Be sure to check the availability and shipping policies for your location.
  3. Distillery Gift Shops: If you happen to be in the vicinity of the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, you can visit their gift shop. Here, you’ll find a variety of Buffalo Trace products, including exclusive releases and limited editions that may not be available elsewhere. It’s a great opportunity to explore their offerings and even take a distillery tour.
  4. Bars and Restaurants: Many bars and restaurants feature Buffalo Trace products on their drink menus. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a neat pour of Buffalo Trace bourbon or try a cocktail made with their spirits, establishments with a focus on quality beverages often include Buffalo Trace products in their offerings.
  5. Whiskey Auctions and Resellers: In the case of rare and limited-edition Buffalo Trace products, whiskey auctions and specialized resellers can be a source for acquiring sought-after bottles. However, it’s important to research and buy from reputable sources to ensure authenticity and fair pricing.

Remember, availability can vary depending on your location and the specific product you’re seeking. It’s always a good idea to call ahead or check online inventories to ensure that the Buffalo Trace product you’re looking for is in stock. Additionally, be aware that some limited-edition releases may require joining a waiting list or participating in lotteries to secure a bottle.

What Bottles of Buffalo Trace Bourbon Are Hard To Find?

Here are some Buffalo Trace bourbon bottles that are often sought after and considered harder to find:

  1. Pappy Van Winkle: Pappy Van Winkle is arguably the most famous and highly sought-after bourbon produced by Buffalo Trace. This limited-release line includes various expressions, such as Pappy Van Winkle 15-Year, 20-Year, and 23-Year. Due to its exceptional quality and scarcity, Pappy Van Winkle commands high prices and is often subject to long waiting lists and lotteries.
  2. Buffalo Trace Antique Collection: The Buffalo Trace Antique Collection (BTAC) is an annual release featuring highly acclaimed and highly allocated bourbons. It includes bottles like George T. Stagg, William Larue Weller, Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye, Eagle Rare 17-Year, and Sazerac Rye 18-Year. These limited-edition releases are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts, leading to limited availability and high demand.
  3. Colonel E.H. Taylor Limited Editions: Colonel E.H. Taylor is a popular line of bourbon produced by Buffalo Trace. Within this line, the limited-edition expressions, such as Colonel E.H. Taylor Four Grain or Colonel E.H. Taylor Seasoned Wood, tend to be harder to find. 4. Buffalo Trace Single Oak Project: The Buffalo Trace Single Oak Project was a unique experiment that involved releasing a series of bourbons, each made from a different combination of oak barrels. While the project is now complete, the bottles from this limited release can still be challenging to find, as they offer a fascinating exploration of how different factors impact the flavor profile of bourbon.
  5. Experimental Collection: Buffalo Trace’s Experimental Collection features innovative and unconventional approaches to bourbon production, such as different grain recipes, yeast strains, or barrel treatments. These limited releases are often highly sought after by whiskey enthusiasts who appreciate the experimental nature of the collection and the opportunity to explore unique flavor profiles.

Opal Ice – Might This Be The Perfect Bourbon Ice?

If I had to only have two appliances in my kitchen, I would have my Ninja Airfryer and my Opal Ice Maker.

My father-in-law’s Opal went out about a month ago and I just set his new machine up yesterday. And he texted me this:

You have no idea what it is like to live without Opal. Thank you for helping.

Happy Father-In-Law

I have had my Opal Ice Maker for years and I am a huge fan. And I have found that the combo of a Yeti Cup and Opal Ice make the perfect combination for drinking bourbon.

Let me give you a little more of a background and some reasons why.

What Is The Opal Ice Maker?

The Opal Ice Maker is a popular countertop ice maker that gained significant attention for its ability to produce chewable “nugget” ice, similar to the type of ice found in restaurants and fast food chains. It was developed by a company called FirstBuild, which is a subsidiary of General Electric (GE).

The Opal Ice Maker became well-known for its sleek design and compact size, making it suitable for use in homes, offices, and small businesses. It is designed to produce ice quickly, typically generating a batch of ice in about 15 minutes. The ice production capacity of the Opal Ice Maker varies depending on the specific model, but it can typically produce around 24 pounds (11 kilograms) of ice per day.

One of the notable features of the Opal Ice Maker is its ability to produce chewable nugget ice. Nugget ice is soft and chewable, making it popular for various beverages and cocktails. It is also known by other names such as “Sonic ice” or “pellet ice.” The Opal Ice Maker’s ability to create this type of ice at home has made it particularly appealing to many consumers.

The Opal Ice Maker is designed to be easy to use. It has a simple control panel with intuitive buttons for adjusting settings and monitoring ice production. Some models also offer Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing users to control and monitor the ice maker remotely using a smartphone app.

To operate the Opal Ice Maker, you generally need to fill the water reservoir and let the machine do its work. It uses a process known as “nugget ice production,” where water is continually circulated over a chilled surface, gradually forming ice flakes that are then compacted into nugget-shaped ice.

Why Do People Love Nugget Ice?

People enjoy chewy nugget ice for several reasons:

  1. Texture: Chewy nugget ice has a unique texture that sets it apart from other types of ice. It is soft and chewable, with a satisfying crunch that many people find enjoyable. The softness of the ice makes it easier to chew compared to harder ice cubes.
  2. Cooling properties: Nugget ice has a relatively large surface area, which allows it to cool drinks quickly. The small ice pellets are also more likely to come into contact with the liquid, providing efficient cooling and keeping beverages cold for longer periods.
  3. Enhanced beverage experience: The chewy texture and smaller ice pieces of nugget ice make it a popular choice for various beverages. It is commonly used in carbonated drinks, cocktails, smoothies, and iced coffees. The ice absorbs the flavors of the beverage, enhancing the overall taste and providing a pleasant mouthfeel.
  4. Crushability: Nugget ice is easily crushable, allowing users to create crushed ice for blended drinks or to serve as a base for other recipes. The malleability of the ice makes it convenient for crushing or breaking into smaller pieces.

Overall, the popularity of chewy nugget ice stems from its unique texture, cooling properties, versatility, and ability to enhance the overall beverage experience. It has become associated with a certain level of quality and is often sought after by individuals who appreciate a particular type of ice in their drinks.

What Do The Experts Say About Opal Ice And Bourbon?

Chewable nugget ice, like the one produced by the Opal Ice Maker, has a softer texture and tends to melt relatively quickly. This means that it may dilute the bourbon more rapidly compared to larger ice cubes or spheres. If you prefer a slower dilution rate, you might want to consider larger ice cubes or spheres.

I like to drink higher ABV bourbon, so this dilution actually plays into my taste profile.

That being said, some bourbon enthusiasts enjoy the unique texture and quick chilling properties of chewable nugget ice in their bourbon. It’s a matter of personal taste and the experience you desire from your drink.

If you decide to use nugget ice from the Opal Ice Maker, keep in mind that it might melt faster than larger ice cubes. Adjust your pour and drinking pace accordingly to maintain the desired flavor balance as the ice melts.

Or use a Yeti Lowball and the ice stays for roughly 4-5 hours without much hassle.

Ultimately, whether the Opal Ice Maker’s nugget ice works well for bourbon is subjective and depends on individual preferences. It’s always a good idea to experiment and find the ice type and dilution rate that suits your personal taste and enjoyment of bourbon.

What Should You Look For In An Ice Maker?

When purchasing an ice maker, there are several factors to consider to ensure you choose the right one for your needs. Here are some key aspects to consider:

  1. Ice Production Capacity: Determine how much ice you need on a daily basis. Consider factors such as the number of people or customers you’ll be serving and the frequency of use. Look for an ice maker that can meet your daily ice production requirements.
  2. Ice Type and Size: Different ice makers produce different types and sizes of ice, such as cubes, nuggets, or flakes. Consider the type of ice that suits your preferences and the specific applications you have in mind, such as beverages, cocktails, or food displays.
  3. Speed and Production Time: Assess the speed at which the ice maker can produce ice. Some machines can generate ice quickly, while others may take longer. Consider the turnaround time for each batch of ice and ensure it aligns with your needs.
  4. Storage Capacity: Evaluate the ice storage capacity of the machine. It’s important to have sufficient storage space to keep the ice until you’re ready to use it. Consider how much ice you’ll need to store at any given time and ensure the ice maker can accommodate that amount.
  5. Size and Space: Consider the physical dimensions of the ice maker and ensure it will fit in the intended location. Measure the available space to determine the appropriate size of the ice maker. Countertop models are typically smaller and more portable, while larger units may require dedicated floor space.
  6. Installation and Maintenance: Review the installation requirements of the ice maker. Some models may require a water line connection, while others may be manually filled. Additionally, consider the maintenance needs, such as cleaning procedures and filter replacements, to ensure you can properly maintain the machine.
  7. Energy Efficiency: Look for an ice maker that is energy efficient to help reduce operating costs and minimize environmental impact. Check for energy certifications or ratings to determine the efficiency of the machine.
  8. Durability and Reliability: Research the reputation and reliability of the brand and model you are considering. Read customer reviews to gauge the durability and longevity of the ice maker. A reliable machine will require fewer repairs and have a longer lifespan.
  9. Price and Budget: Set a budget for your ice maker purchase and consider the overall value provided by the machine. Compare prices, features, and customer reviews to find an ice maker that offers a good balance between cost and performance.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the marriage of bourbon and Opal ice is a match made in cocktail heaven. The rich, complex flavors of bourbon are beautifully complemented by the crisp, clean chill of Opal ice, creating a truly delightful drinking experience.

Bourbon, with its distinct caramel notes, hints of vanilla, and warm oak undertones, provides a solid foundation for a drink that exudes sophistication and depth. Its smooth and robust character is the perfect canvas for the unique qualities of Opal ice to shine through.

Whether you’re a seasoned bourbon connoisseur or a casual drinker exploring the world of fine spirits, the pairing of bourbon and Opal ice offers a delightful sensory journey. The combination of the whiskey’s warmth and opal ice’s icy coolness creates a harmonious balance that is both refreshing and indulgent.

So, the next time you find yourself reaching for a bottle of bourbon, consider adding Opal ice to the equation. Elevate your drinking experience and embark on a flavor-filled adventure that will tantalize your taste buds and leave you with a newfound appreciation for the magic that happens when bourbon and Opal ice meet. Cheers to a perfect union of two exceptional elements in the realm of libations!

Common Questions About Putting Alcohol In A Yeti Cup

Here are some common questions that someone might have about putting alcohol in a Yeti cup:

Will the Yeti cup affect the taste of the alcohol?

No, a Yeti cup should not affect the taste of the alcohol. Yeti cups are made from high-quality stainless steel that is designed to be tasteless and odorless. This means that the material used in the construction of the cup should not interact with the flavors or aromas of the alcohol you place inside it.

From personal experience, I have never noticed a difference in the taste of bourbon out of a Yeti cup or another type of cup. There has never been a metallic taste when I have been sipping bourbon.

The stainless steel used in Yeti cups is generally considered inert, meaning it does not react chemically with the contents of the cup. This helps to ensure that the taste of your alcoholic beverage remains unaffected and unaltered while using a Yeti cup.

However, it’s worth noting that if your Yeti cup is not properly cleaned or if it has lingering odors or flavors from previous beverages, it may impact the taste of your drink. It’s always a good practice to clean your Yeti cup thoroughly between uses to maintain its neutrality and prevent any potential residual flavors from affecting your drink’s taste.

Can I put hot alcoholic beverages in a Yeti cup?

Looking to make a Hot Toddy and not wanting it to get cold? Maybe a Yeti is the perfect tool for the job!

Yes, you can put hot alcoholic beverages in a Yeti cup. Yeti cups are designed to retain the temperature of the contents, whether they are hot or cold. The insulating properties of the cup help to keep hot beverages, including hot alcoholic drinks, at the desired temperature for an extended period.

When using a Yeti cup for hot alcoholic beverages, it’s essential to consider the following:

  1. Temperature: Hot alcoholic beverages should be poured into a preheated Yeti cup to maximize heat retention. You can achieve this by rinsing the cup with hot water before adding your drink.
  2. Lid and Seal: Ensure that the lid is securely fastened to maintain the heat inside the cup and prevent any spills. Yeti cups are known for their excellent sealing capabilities, which help to keep your beverage hot.
  3. Heat Transfer: The exterior of the Yeti cup can become hot to the touch when filled with a hot drink. Use caution when handling the cup to avoid burns, and consider using a handle or protective sleeve for added insulation.
  4. Enjoyment: With a hot alcoholic beverage, take care not to burn your mouth. Allow the drink to cool down slightly or use caution when taking sips.

How long will the Yeti cup keep my alcoholic beverage cold or hot?

When it comes to bourbon, I can leave a glass out overnight and wake up with cold bourbon. Then it’s time for an Irish Coffee!

As a general guideline, Yeti cups are designed to keep hot beverages hot for several hours and cold beverages cold for up to 24 hours. However, it’s important to note that these are approximate estimates, and the actual duration may vary.

Here are a few considerations:

  1. Hot beverages: A preheated Yeti cup can help retain the heat of your hot alcoholic beverage for several hours, usually ranging from 4 to 6 hours or longer. However, over time, the drink will gradually cool down, although it will remain warmer compared to a standard cup or glass.
  2. Cold beverages: When it comes to keeping your alcoholic beverage cold, a Yeti cup can maintain the desired temperature for an extended period. Depending on external conditions, such as the temperature of the environment, ice can stay solid for 8 hours or longer, while your drink can remain cold for 24 hours or more.

For the best results, it’s recommended to pre-chill or pre-heat your Yeti cup before adding your beverage, as this can enhance the overall insulation and temperature retention capabilities.

How To Drink Woodford Reserve Bourbon

Woodford Reserve is a premium bourbon whiskey known for its smooth and rich flavor profile. To fully enjoy and appreciate the nuances of this fine spirit, follow these steps to savor your drink:

  1. Choose the right glassware: Select a rocks glass or a whiskey tumbler with a wide mouth. This allows you to appreciate the aromas and flavors of the whiskey. Some people prefer a Glencairn, but I’m partial to a Yeti Tumbler for my bourbon.
  2. Serve it neat: Neat refers to drinking the whiskey without any additional mixers or ice. This method allows you to experience the full character of the bourbon. Pour a measure of Woodford Reserve into your glass, usually about 1.5 to 2 ounces.
  3. Observe the appearance: Take a moment to appreciate the color and clarity of the whiskey. Woodford Reserve typically has a deep amber hue.
  4. Nose the whiskey: Gently swirl the glass to release the aromas. Bring the glass to your nose and take a few deep inhales, noting the different scents. Woodford Reserve offers notes of caramel, vanilla, oak, and hints of fruit and spice (more on the taste profile a little bit later).

  6. Consider adding a few drops of water or ice: If you find the whiskey too strong or want to enhance the flavors, you can add a few drops of water to your glass. This can help open up the whiskey and release additional aromas and flavors. I like to drink my Woodford on the rocks.
  7. Enjoy slowly: Bourbon is meant to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Take your time, savoring each sip and allowing the flavors to evolve on your palate. Feel free to take breaks between sips to fully appreciate the experience.

Remember, personal taste preferences vary, so feel free to experiment and find the method that suits you best. Whether you choose to drink it neat, with a splash of water, or on the rocks, the goal is to enjoy and appreciate the unique qualities of Woodford Reserve.

Allocated Bourbon List

Allocated bourbons are specific brands or expressions of bourbon whiskey that are in high demand and limited supply. These bourbons are often produced by well-known distilleries and are highly sought after by whiskey enthusiasts and collectors.

The allocation process typically occurs when the demand for a particular bourbon exceeds the available supply. Due to various factors such as production capacity, barrel aging requirements, and production costs, distilleries may not be able to meet the full market demand for a specific bourbon.

In order to ensure fair distribution and avoid shortages, distilleries may allocate their limited supply of bourbon to different markets, regions, or specific retailers. This allocation process involves carefully distributing a limited number of bottles to various outlets to provide broader access to consumers.

Allocated bourbons are often released in limited quantities, and as a result, they can be difficult to find. Many whiskey enthusiasts eagerly await the release of allocated bourbons and may go to great lengths to acquire a bottle. Blade And Bow Bourbon Review – Unlocking The Story Behind The Keys

I was walking through CVS yesterday to grab a prescription for my wife and I just had to walk down through the liquor aisle. There wasn’t a huge selection, but the Blade and Bow bourbon caught my eye. I have seen some recent Facebook posts about people collecting the keys, so I stopped and actually looked to see what number key was around the neck of the bottle (4 for those of you who are interested).

It got me thinking: What do I actually know about Blade and Bow Bourbon? I have had it a few times in the past, but I really don’t know much about its story, it’s history, and it’s taste profile.

So this post is a deep dive into Blade and Bow. It’s going to sound more like a book report, but I spent a good bit of time researching the bourbon and I want to share my findings with you.

Overview of Blade and Bow Bourbon

Blade and Bow Bourbon is a brand of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey known for its craftsmanship and attention to detail. It is produced by Diageo, a global alcoholic beverages company. The brand takes its name from two important tools in the bourbon-making process: the blade, which is used to cut the “angel’s share” of whiskey that evaporates during aging, and the bow, which is a symbol of the master distiller’s art.

I honestly had no idea either of these two things were a part of the bourbon making process, so I learned something here.

Blade and Bow Bourbon is crafted using a blend of whiskeys sourced from some of the oldest and most iconic distilleries in Kentucky. These distilleries have a rich history and contribute to the unique character of the bourbon. The blend is carefully curated to ensure a balanced and flavorful profile.

I originally drank a pour of this because I was told it was the poor man’s Pappy Van Winkle. I’m not sure I 100% believe this, but it did get me to give it a try.

One notable aspect of Blade and Bow Bourbon is its aging process. The brand incorporates a solera aging method, which involves blending older and younger whiskeys together over time. This technique helps to create a consistent flavor profile and adds depth and complexity to the bourbon.

In addition to its flagship bourbon, Blade and Bow offers limited-edition releases and special expressions, which are highly sought after by whiskey enthusiasts and collectors. Old Forester 86 Vs 100 Proof

If you haven’t read the blog, you should know that I have become a huge Old Forester fan over the last year. It all started with a bottle that was purchased to get a big bottle of Eagle Rare and it was solidified when I attended the Old Forester tasting at FoxGardin Ale House.

So a little more about Old Forester 86, 100, and the general Brown-Forman distillery. And then I’ll share my preference between the 86 and the 100 proof variations.

Old Forester Basics

Old Forester is a well-known American bourbon whiskey brand that has been in operation since 1870. It is produced by the Brown-Forman Corporation and is named after Dr. William Forrester, a physician who prescribed whiskey as a medicinal treatment.

Old Forester offers a range of bourbon whiskeys, including the Old Forester 86 Proof and the Old Forester 100 Proof. The key difference between these two expressions lies in their alcohol content, which affects their flavor profiles and overall characteristics.

Old Forester 86 Proof

I currently have a 1.75L bottle of this on my counter. I purchased it from Kroger during their beloved 25% off sale. I really wanted Old Forster 100 proof, but I settled on this during the sale because I couldn’t find any large bottles of the 100 on the shelf.

This bourbon is bottled at 43% alcohol by volume (ABV). It is a slightly lower proof whiskey, which means it has a lower alcohol content compared to the 100 Proof version. Old Forester 86 Proof is known for its smooth and approachable flavor profile. It has notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak, with a relatively mellow and balanced taste. The lower alcohol content allows the flavors to shine without overwhelming the palate.

Old Forester 100 Proof

This might giveaway my choice, but Old Forester 100 is my go-to bourbon. I think it’s a cinnamon bomb and it has a lot of oak to back that up. It’s just plain yummy in my book.

This bourbon is bottled at 50% ABV. It is a higher proof whiskey, which means it has a higher alcohol content compared to the 86 Proof version. Old Forester 100 Proof delivers a bolder and more intense flavor experience. It tends to have a stronger presence of spices, including cinnamon and pepper, along with a richer oak character. The higher alcohol content contributes to a warmer and more robust mouthfeel.

Which is Better – Old Forester 86 Vs 100?

If you were paying attention, you know my pick would be the 100 proof. But I’m not everyone.

Both the Old Forester 86 Proof and 100 Proof bourbons are made using a similar mash bill, which consists of a high proportion of corn, along with rye and malted barley. They are aged in new, charred oak barrels, which imparts additional flavors and complexity to the whiskeys.

The choice between the Old Forester 86 Proof and 100 Proof ultimately comes down to personal preference. If you prefer a smoother and more approachable bourbon with milder flavors, the 86 Proof might be the better option. On the other hand, if you enjoy a stronger and more robust whiskey with spicier notes, the 100 Proof version would be the way to go.

I choose the 100 proof because I like to drink my bourbon on the rocks. And the higher proof essentially comes down when the ice starts to melt. So I guess it’s really a toss up. If you are drinking without ice, go for the 86. If you are on the rocks, go for the 100. And if you want to be frisky, drink the 100 straight.

Ultimately, both expressions offer quality bourbons that showcase the Old Forester distillery’s craftsmanship and heritage. So you can’t lose.

Cheers!
