Rate My Fantasy Team – Brian W

So my I have my first chance to rate a fantasy team for this blog, so a big thanks to Brian W for taking the opportunity. These are opinions of my own and lord knows that NFL football is as unpredictable with injuries, teams, and play calls (sad day for Travis Kelce owners).

Here is Brian’s team:

Justin Herbert
Dak Prescott
Bijan Robinson
Derrick Henry
Javonte Williams
Samaje Perine
De’von Achane
Tee Higgins
Mike Evans
Christian Kirk
Brandin Cooks
Van Jefferson
Darren Waller
Dalton Schultz
Will Lutz
Baltimore

Since I don’t know the size of his league or his draft order, I’ll take this from a position by position angle:

Quarterback – Herbert and Prescott are two solid options for the season. I’m a big fan of Herbert and he has a rocket for an arm. Prescott “should” have a decent year, but it’s also the Dallas Cowboys. From what I’ve seen in most drafts, I imagine you reached a little early for a quarterback (with the two names that you have), but you also have two solid players.

Running Back – I’m not exactly sure how you managed to grab Bijan Robinson and Derrick Henry, but nice pick ups. Bijan is a gamble, but an educated bet since he is in a run heavy offense and an overall stud. If he lives up to his hype, I think you have a steal here. Henry is always a solid pick and I hope the Titans are relevant this year (that AFC South is always a little all over the place). With Williams (still be be tested), Perine (a great back-up from Cincy), and Achane (sneaky pick-up here with the injury for Wilson Jr).

Wide Receiver – If I am looking for a weakness on your team, I think you are missing a stud in the wide receiver core. Higgins is solid, but I wouldn’t have him as the #1 receiver since he is splitting touches with Chase (not saying he is not as good, but splitting is always hard). Evans might be a good fit if Mayfield can throw, but it all depends on how that fit goes. Kirk was good last year, but I just don’t know if he’ll get as many touches this year. Cooks is an interesting grab, but I am never a fan of having a QB and a receiver from the same team – It’s boom or bust mode on that. It looks to me that you are a little weak here and might want to consider trading one of those RBs (before they get hurt) to pick up a little fire power here.

Tight End – I don’t know if there is a great path for tight ends this year. I’m hoping Waller can fit in with Jimmy G, but I just don’t know how games are going to go in Vegas (he does have the inside track for catches if Adams keeps them busy on the edges). Schultz was great in Dallas, but I don’t know how the Texans will do with him. For the class of tight ends out there, I would consider stashing a rookie away and hope they have a breakout year (see Bills, Packers, Lions).

Kicker and Defense – I remember a time where Baltimore was a killer defense. And I don’t think that time is over, but don’t get suckered into the times of old when they have a tough opponent. And Lutz will do fine as your kicker, so I don’t think you are bad off there.

Overall – B-

While you have some big names on your team, I think you are a little running back heavy (and if you are in a PPR league, you don’t have the best catching RBs on the market) and you went a little early to grab two QBs. This hurts your overall team and really puts a strain on your wide receivers. I think you also are taking an educated risk on Robinson and the grade might jump up to an A if it pays off.

Let me know how your team fairs at the end of the season! I wish Brian W. and his team the best of luck.
