Keg tables are not only practical and functional, but they also add a touch of uniqueness and charm to any gathering or event. Repurposing a keg as a table is an eco-friendly way to give new life to an otherwise discarded item. In this blog post, we will explore some creative keg table ideas that will elevate your hosting game and impress your guests with style and functionality.
Rustic Barrel Bar Table
The classic rustic barrel bar table is a timeless choice that complements various themes and settings. Simply flip a keg upside down and place a wooden tabletop on it. You can use a reclaimed wooden plank, a round wooden disc, or even a customized top with intricate designs or a personal touch. This setup works wonderfully for outdoor events, garden parties, or rustic-themed weddings.
Industrial Keg Coffee Table
For those who appreciate a modern industrial vibe, consider converting a keg into a chic coffee table. Add a tempered glass or metal top to showcase the keg’s unique design while maintaining a smooth and functional surface. This style fits perfectly in contemporary living rooms or industrial-themed spaces.
LED-Lit Keg Table
Take your keg table to the next level by incorporating LED lights. Drill small holes in the keg’s surface and insert LED lights to create a mesmerizing glow effect. This illuminated keg table is an attention-grabber, perfect for nighttime gatherings, parties, or even as a unique piece of decor in a trendy bar or lounge.
Tiki Bar Keg Table
Transform your keg into a tropical tiki bar table for a fun and laid-back atmosphere. Wrap the keg with bamboo or thatch material to give it a tiki hut appearance. Add a circular or oval wooden top and some tiki-inspired decorations like fake palm leaves and mini tiki torches for an exotic touch. This playful keg table idea is ideal for summer parties or luau-themed events.
Wine Barrel Keg Side Table
If you have a smaller keg or prefer a more refined look, consider repurposing a wine barrel as a keg side table. Wine barrels offer a charming rustic appeal and are available in different sizes, making them perfect for holding drinks or decorative items. Place one next to a cozy armchair or use a pair as nightstands for a touch of wine country elegance in your home.
Keg Cooler Table
For outdoor events, a keg cooler table is a fantastic idea. Cut an opening on the keg’s top and install a cooler insert or a metal bucket to chill beverages conveniently. Surround the cooler with a wooden or metal tabletop, providing ample space for drinks, snacks, and other essentials. Your guests will appreciate the convenience of having chilled drinks within arm’s reach!
Conclusion
Keg tables offer a delightful blend of functionality and creativity, making them a standout addition to any social gathering or space. Whether you’re planning a rustic wedding reception, hosting a backyard barbecue, or simply adding a unique piece to your home decor, keg tables are versatile enough to suit various themes and settings.
Remember, the key to creating the perfect keg table lies in your imagination and willingness to explore different styles and designs. So, go ahead and repurpose that keg into a functional and eye-catching table that will undoubtedly be a conversation starter at your next event!
Bourbon, the iconic American whiskey, has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in recent years. As demand for rare and limited-edition bottles has soared, a thriving secondary market for bourbon has emerged. While selling bourbon on the secondary market might seem like an attractive proposition, it is essential for both sellers and buyers to be aware of the potential risks involved. In this blog post, we will explore the dangers associated with selling bourbon on the secondary market and the implications it may have on the industry and individual enthusiasts.
Legal Implications
One of the most significant risks of selling bourbon on the secondary market is the potential legal consequences. The sale of alcohol is heavily regulated, and various laws govern the distribution and sale of spirits. Selling bourbon on the secondary market might violate federal, state, or local laws, leading to serious legal repercussions for both sellers and buyers.
In some jurisdictions, selling alcohol without proper licenses or permits can result in hefty fines, imprisonment, or the suspension of licenses for legitimate businesses. Therefore, individuals looking to sell bourbon on the secondary market must thoroughly research the applicable laws and regulations in their area before engaging in any transactions.
Counterfeit Products
The secondary market for bourbon has attracted unscrupulous individuals seeking to profit from the high demand for rare bottles. Counterfeit bourbon has become a prevalent issue, with fake bottles being sold at exorbitant prices to unsuspecting buyers. These counterfeit products not only lead to financial losses for buyers but also damage the reputation of distilleries and the entire bourbon industry.
To mitigate the risk of falling victim to counterfeit products, buyers should exercise caution, do their due diligence, and purchase from reputable sellers with a verifiable track record.
Price Speculation and Inflation
Selling bourbon on the secondary market has contributed to price speculation and inflation. As certain bottles become more desirable and difficult to obtain through traditional channels, their prices skyrocket on the secondary market. This phenomenon creates an artificial demand that can drive up prices for all bourbon consumers, including those who simply want to enjoy their favorite spirits without participating in the secondary market.
Moreover, price inflation may lead to a bubble in the bourbon market, causing a potential crash when demand subsides or when supply increases. This can result in significant financial losses for those who have invested heavily in bourbon bottles as commodities.
Strained Relationships
The bourbon community is known for its camaraderie and shared passion for the spirit. However, the rise of the secondary market has strained relationships between enthusiasts and collectors. Limited releases that were once accessible to all enthusiasts are now increasingly difficult to find, leading to frustration and disappointment for many.
Additionally, some enthusiasts have reported instances of hoarding and reselling bottles solely for profit, which can be perceived as exploitative and detrimental to the spirit of community and shared enjoyment that bourbon enthusiasts once valued.
Conclusion
While the allure of selling bourbon on the secondary market may be tempting, it is essential to be aware of the risks involved. Legal issues, counterfeit products, price speculation, and strained relationships within the bourbon community are all potential consequences of engaging in secondary market transactions.
As the bourbon industry continues to evolve, it is crucial for all stakeholders to consider the long-term impact of their actions. Balancing the passion for bourbon with responsible consumption and trading practices can help preserve the integrity and enjoyment of this beloved American spirit for generations to come.

They are selling the tickets for $100 a piece or 5 for $400. Remember – All of the proceeds go to help the The Cure Starts Now Foundation.
Wonder what you could win? I really don’t want to tell you because I would like to win one of these, but I just have to share.
1st Prize – Buffalo Trace O.F.C. 1995 Vintage
Holy crap. If you are drawn first, you win this bottle that is valued at over $7,500. I’ve never even dreamed of owning a bottle like this, but I’m tossing a chance into drawing just to maybe be able to grab this bottle.
Since I have never tried this, I looked back on the Buffalo Trace website to find out a little more about this bottle:
The O.F.C. vintage-dated bourbons have a name derived from this National Historic Landmark’s original moniker — the O.F.C. Distillery — renowned for producing top class whiskey during its tenure.
Tasting notes for this bourbon describe cherry cordial on the nose followed by caramel and slightly smoked-oak. Dark chocolate, tobacco leaves and dates are found on the palate, followed by a lingering finish of leather, black pepper and cinnamon.
This is the fifth O.F.C Vintage release and, like its predecessors, will be very limited and extremely rare. Similar to previous releases, the 1995 Vintage will arrive in a wooden display box containing a provenance card. Inside the wooden box contains a crystal bottle with real copper lettering in-laid in the bottle with a hand-applied paper label. The label on the back of the bottle as well as the provenance card note the milestones for the year 1995.
If I don’t win the first prize, I’m not going to be mad about winning this (I really won’t be mad if I win anything at all). This prize is also valued at over $7,500 and includes a bottle of each of the following:
– George T. Stagg: Lush toffee sweetness and dark chocolate with hints of vanilla, fudge, nougat and molasses. Underlying notes of dates, tobacco, dark berries, spearmint and a hint of coffee round out the palate.
– Sazerac Rye 18yr: Very mature, with notes of oak, leather molasses and all-spice. The long, warm finish is preceded by notes of mint, eucalyptus, cinnamon, vanilla, and lingering pepper.
– William Larue Weller: Fragrant scents of caramel corn, new leather, plums, light toffee and pipe tobacco. The palate tastes of marshmallow, salted almonds, nougat, figs and dates. This whiskey finishes smooth, composed and flavorfully sweet.
– Eagle Rare 17yr: The fragrant aroma has almost a wine-like character with hints of almond, cigar boxes and cinnamon. The delicate and dry mid-palate tastes of leather, vanilla and tobacco. This bourbon lingers, finishing with hint of leather and toffee.
– Thomas Handy: Powerful, lush, and boldly spicy. Flavors of toffee, fig cake, and candied fruit, followed by mint, cinnamon and clove. The finish ultimately reveals subtle notes of allspice, coconut and nutmeg. Long and warm.
3rd Prize – Michter’s 3 Bottle Set
Ok – so if I don’t win the first two, I’m again happy winning this one. This prize is valued over $1,100 and has three pretty amazing bottles:
– Micher’s 10yr Straight Rye: Deep notes of vanilla and toffee, toasted almonds and cinnamon with ample dose of crushed pepper and a hint of orange citrus.
– Michter’s Barrel Strength Bourbon: Concentrated character with rich caramel and luxurious toffee balanced by vanilla, hints of apricot and cherry and other stone fruits, roasted pecans and molasses with some charred oak highlights.
– Michter’s 10yr Kentucky Straight Bourbon: Big and bold dark toffee and caramel, charred oak, maple syrup, and vanilla.

When browsing through alcoholic beverage labels, you’ve likely come across the term “proof.” While it may seem like an arbitrary number, “proof” actually holds significant meaning in determining the alcohol content of spirits. In this blog post, we’ll explore what “proof” means, its historical origins, and how it relates to the alcohol content we find in our favorite drinks.
Defining Proof:
In the context of alcohol, “proof” is a measure of the alcohol content expressed as a percentage of alcohol by volume (ABV). The term originated centuries ago as a way to assess the strength of alcoholic beverages. Today, it continues to be used, particularly in the United States, to indicate the alcohol content of spirits like whiskey, vodka, rum, and others.
The Historical Origin of Proof:
The term “proof” has its origins in the days when alcohol content needed to be tested for tax purposes and to ensure quality. In England, during the 16th century, spirits were “proved” by soaking gunpowder with the alcohol and then setting it alight. If the gunpowder ignited, it was considered “proof” that the spirit contained enough alcohol and was not watered down.
The British used a scale where “100 proof” represented the point at which the alcohol content was sufficient to allow the gunpowder to ignite. This scale eventually evolved into the system used today, with “100 proof” equal to 50% ABV.
The Relationship Between Proof and ABV:
The relationship between proof and ABV is straightforward. In the United States, proof is exactly twice the ABV percentage. For example, a spirit labeled as “80 proof” would have an ABV of 40%. In other words, dividing the proof by 2 gives you the ABV.
Converting Proof to ABV and Vice Versa:
If you come across a spirit labeled with its proof but prefer to know the ABV, simply divide the proof by 2. Conversely, to find the proof of a spirit with a known ABV, multiply the ABV by 2.
The Global Transition to ABV:
In the past, various countries had their own proof systems, each with different standards and scales. However, many nations have since transitioned to expressing alcohol content solely in ABV, which is more universally understood and consistent.
Modern Use of Proof in the United States:
In the United States, the use of proof is still common, especially for spirits like whiskey and bourbon. However, many brands also include the ABV on their labels to provide clarity and accommodate international consumers.
Conclusion:
Understanding the concept of “proof” in alcohol content reveals its historical significance and its role in assessing the strength of spirits. While the term originated as a practical means of testing alcohol, it remains a familiar measurement for many spirits in the United States. As the global market continues to evolve, standardized expressions of alcohol content in ABV are becoming more prevalent. The next time you come across “proof” on a bottle, you’ll now have the knowledge to discern the alcohol content and appreciate the historical legacy of this important measurement in the world of spirits. Cheers!
For whiskey enthusiasts and collectors, their prized bottles of whiskey are not just spirits; they are cherished investments and pieces of history. The growing popularity of whiskey as an investment has led to the emergence of specialized insurance policies known as “whiskey insurance.” In this blog post, we will explore what whiskey insurance is, why it’s essential for whiskey collectors, and what you need to know to protect your valuable whiskey collection.
Understanding Whiskey Insurance:
Whiskey insurance is a specialized form of coverage designed to protect whiskey collectors and investors from potential financial losses due to damage, theft, or other unforeseen events. While standard homeowner’s insurance policies might cover some personal belongings, they often have limitations when it comes to high-value and collectible items like whiskey bottles.
The Importance of Whiskey Insurance:
For whiskey enthusiasts who have invested time and money in building an impressive whiskey collection, the need for protection becomes paramount. Whether it’s a rare bottle from a historic distillery or a limited-edition release, the value of some whiskeys can appreciate significantly over time. Whiskey insurance provides peace of mind, ensuring that you can enjoy your collection without worry.
Coverage Options:
Whiskey insurance policies can vary in coverage options, and it’s crucial to understand what is included in your policy. Some key aspects to consider include:
Coverage for Damage: Accidents can happen, and bottles can break. A comprehensive whiskey insurance policy should cover accidental damage to your collection.
Theft Protection: Whiskey theft is a real concern for collectors. A good policy will provide coverage in case of theft, both at home and during transit.
Natural Disasters: Protection against natural disasters like floods, fires, or earthquakes can safeguard your collection from unforeseen events.
Market Value: Ensure that your policy covers the current market value of your whiskey collection, taking into account the appreciation in value of rare and collectible bottles.
Valuation and Documentation:
Before securing whiskey insurance, it’s essential to have an accurate valuation of your collection. This might involve obtaining professional appraisals, consulting with whiskey experts, or referring to auction records. Additionally, detailed documentation, including photographs, purchase receipts, and provenance information, will be crucial for the claims process.
Choosing the Right Insurance Provider:
Selecting a reputable and experienced insurance provider is vital for ensuring your whiskey collection is adequately protected. Look for companies that specialize in insuring collectibles, art, and high-value assets. Reading reviews and seeking recommendations from other whiskey collectors can also be helpful in making an informed decision.
Conclusion:
For whiskey enthusiasts and collectors, whiskey insurance offers a crucial layer of protection for their valuable and prized possessions. Just as one carefully selects and curates their whiskey collection, investing in the right insurance policy is essential to preserve the legacy and value of these liquid treasures. By understanding what whiskey insurance entails and choosing the right coverage options, collectors can confidently enjoy their beloved whiskey collection, knowing it is safeguarded against unforeseen events. Cheers to a worry-free and well-protected journey through the world of whiskey!

When it comes to quenching your thirst on a hot summer day, there’s no better companion than a refreshing highball cocktail. Whether you’re tending to your lawn or simply enjoying the sunshine, this classic drink is the perfect choice to beat the heat. In this blog post, we’ll delve into the reasons why the highball cocktail reigns supreme as the best mower drink and explore its delightful simplicity and versatility. Prepare to elevate your mowing experience with this cool and invigorating libation!
The Highball Cocktail: A Definition
The highball cocktail is a simple yet versatile concoction consisting of just two primary ingredients: a base spirit and a non-alcoholic mixer, typically soda water or ginger ale. Its name originates from the “highball” glass, a tall and slender glass perfect for serving this thirst-quenching delight.
Simplicity at Its Finest
One of the reasons the highball cocktail is the ultimate mower drink is its sheer simplicity. After a hot and sweaty session in the yard, the last thing you want is a complex and time-consuming drink recipe. With the highball, all you need is your favorite spirit, some ice, and your choice of mixer, making it incredibly easy to prepare.
Hydration and Refreshment
Mowing the lawn can be physically demanding, especially under the scorching sun. The highball cocktail excels in providing much-needed hydration and refreshment to keep you going. The soda water or ginger ale in the mix helps quench your thirst, while the ice keeps the drink cool and invigorating.
Versatility for Every Palate
Another fantastic aspect of the highball cocktail is its adaptability to suit every taste preference. Whether you’re a fan of whiskey, vodka, rum, gin, or even tequila, the highball can be customized to accommodate your favorite spirit. Pair it with soda water for a classic version or add a twist of flavor with ginger ale or your preferred mixer.
Playful Garnishes and Enhancements
Elevate your highball cocktail with playful garnishes and enhancements. A slice of lemon, lime, or cucumber can add a zesty twist, while a sprig of fresh mint offers a burst of aroma. Get creative and experiment with different combinations to tailor the highball to your liking.
Low Alcohol Content
